Job Description

Turning Tides is a multifunctional, complex needs homelessness organisation that works in Worthing, Adur, Littlehampton, Horsham and Mid Sussex. It has over 150 staff and 250 volunteers. Its mission is to end local homelessness.

Turning Tides have been successful as lead partner for the West Sussex DAAT contract for Accommodation Based Support Service for Alcohol/Drug Recovery.

Due to begin October 2021, the new contract gives Turning Tides the opportunity to recruit a Nurse Practitioner role to enhance the Recovery Project’s Managed Withdrawal from alcohol programme.

The managed withdrawal from alcohol programme was developed by a group of external clinicians and professionals from Turning Tides’ Recovery Project in order to create a safe detox method for a vulnerable, marginalised group of homeless or insecurely housed clients who historically had struggled to engage with other services.

Turning Tides Recovery Project is a unique residential service for up to 28 homeless people who are seeking safe shelter to tackle their addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.

As a registered nurse you will be part of the Recovery Project Team involved in the delivery of the managed withdrawal from alcohol programme for alcohol dependent clients in a residential setting.

As the Nurse Practitioner you will be supporting the frontline Recovery Project Team with clinical support such as, health checks and assessment, monitoring of clinical withdrawals, and liaising with GP surgeries and other clinicians.

We are looking for a motivated, organised Registered Nurse (can be Mental Health or General trained) who have experience or an interest in working with those with mixed and multiple complex needs (homelessness, substance use, physical and mental health issues).

The ideal candidates will have post-qualification clinical experience working with patients with drug and alcohol addictions and be registered with the NMC and have knowledge of CIWA scale (Clinical Institute of Withdrawal Assessment scale).

The post holder is expected to have excellent communication skills, be organised and motivated in service development. They also must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of working with this patient group. Previous clinical experience within the area of alcohol misuse is essential.

Experience of and a willingness to deliver training to the wider team would be an advantage.
