As a volunteer, you will help facilitate sessions, support clients during activities, and assist with preparation and planning. Your role will be pivotal in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, enabling participants to gain valuable skills for everyday life and work.
We are seeking a Romanian-speaking volunteer to work with our Roma Employment Coach to deliver our English Language Club. As a volunteer, you will help facilitate and deliver sessions, assist clients during activities, and contribute to the planning and preparation of each workshop . Your role will be central in creating a relaxed and inclusive space where participants feel encouraged to engage, practice English, and develop their confidence.
This English Language Club project consists of seven weekly sessions, each focusing on practical, real-life topics such as shopping, using public transport, and making appointments. Through activities like role-playing, group discussions, and visual aids, participants will gain the confidence and vocabulary needed for everyday interactions, social integration, and future opportunities in education or employment. This project is designed to be accessible and supportive, offering a relaxed space for clients to build essential language skills with the help of Romanian-speaking staff and volunteers.

Main duties
Building a rapport whilst maintaining both personal and professional boundaries and adhering to our safeguarding policy is key to this role.
- Assist in leading group discussions and activities during workshops.
- Help plan and prepare materials for the sessions, including visual aids and interactive resources.
- Set up and clean up the meeting space, and assist with refreshments as required.
- Provide English language support in Romanian/Romani, including translating and explaining workshop content to participants.
- Address client needs that arise during sessions, reporting concerns to staff as necessary.
Essential qualities
- Aged 18 or over – essential
- Speaks Romanian or Romani language - essential
- Actively displaying a non-judgmental and approachable manner
- Ability to support and relate to individuals from diverse and vulnerable backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal skills, such as listening and inclusive communication
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff in delivering a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Ability to adhere to The Passage values, policies and procedure
Desired qualities
- Previous experience volunteering with vulnerable people or working in a community-based setting.
- Interest in Romani culture.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet dynamic needs of the group.
