Job Description

Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the Southwest offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other needs.  We promote mental health and wellbeing by supporting people and communities to build brighter futures.

Second Step, in partnership with Ara, have been delivering Step Together, an innovative service in Somerset for adults who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness with complex needs since April 2019. We have built a reputation for engaging with such individuals where other services have not been successful, and promoting new approaches to supporting the most vulnerable in the county. The service supports clients with their own path to recovery and works closely with partners to help achieve goals.

Second Step, in partnership with Shal and Aster have been funded to pilot a Psychological, Adversity and Trauma (PAT) informed service for up to 12 months, providing a unique, mixed, housing-led approach for 6 young people (18-25yrs).

This will include Intensive, Housing First provision for two young people determined to have higher acuity and complexity, who have faced exclusion from existing provision, and shared training flats for four young people who are ready to move on from their supported housing.

This exciting new role will sit within the Step Together team and will build on learning from our previous pilot, where housing and support were delivered separately to care leavers who struggled to engage with either the supported housing service they were accommodated by, or their Leaving Care worker whilst living in their own accommodation or experiencing homelessness.

We are offering the right candidate a unique opportunity to work in close partnership with 2 leading housing providers, and within a truly innovative service, to pilot a new approach to supporting young people with a range of needs, your work and the learning from this pilot will help inform the direction of future services for Care Leavers and other young people across the county.

PLEASE NOTE: We are taking a flexible approach to recruiting to this position and encourage early applications.  There is no single fixed interview date and applicants will be selected and invited to interview on a rolling basis.  We reserve the right to close the advert at any point.

Second Step is committed to Equal Opportunities and welcomes applicants from all sections of the community and from people who have personal experience of using mental health services.

Closing Date: Sunday 31 October 2021
