As a result of additional funding, SMART is delighted to be offering additional outreach and direct access into an overnight bed this winter, running alongside our existing projects in Bedford.
As a Support Worker for SMART, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to people who are sleeping rough.
About the Post
You will be working within a team, based overnight in our Somewhere Safe to Stay Hub, the gateway to Bedford’s homeless services. You may conduct street sweeps, alongside a Caseworker, to proactively seek out individuals who may not yet have approached services for support, or who have approached Bedford Borough Council for support.
You will ensure the Hub is a safe and welcoming place to stay for those needing emergency accommodation, where this is desired, ensuring that no one needs to sleep rough over the winter months.
To be successful in this role, you will have an understanding of homelessness, in its widest context, and other complex needs. Your prior experience (lived and/or worked), will give you confidence in working with people who are experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping. You will be professional, friendly and approachable, and have the ability to rapidly build trust and rapport with colleagues and people who may need our services.
