Job Description

As a result of additional funding, SMART is delighted to be offering additional outreach and direct access into an overnight bed this winter, running alongside our existing projects in Bedford.

As a Caseworker for SMART, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to people who are sleeping rough this Winter.

About the Post

You will be working within a team, based overnight in our Somewhere Safe to Stay Hub, the gateway to Bedford’s homeless services. Throughout the night you will conduct street sweeps to proactively seek out individuals who may not yet have approached services for support.

You will facilitate rapid access to emergency accommodation at the Hub, where this is desired, ensuring that no one needs to sleep rough over the winter months. You will r role will include completing assessment of needs and risk of individuals, so you will need to be able to quickly build rapport with people.


About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a sound understanding of homelessness, in its widest context, and other complex needs. Your prior experience (lived and/or worked), will give you confidence in working with people who are experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping. You will be professional, friendly and approachable, and have the ability to rapidly build trust and rapport with colleagues and people who may need our services.

Location: Bedford Somewhere Safe to Stay Hub, with overnight Outreach sweeps.

Salary: £24,179 + unsociable hours shift allowance of £1,000, per annum (pro rata)

Working Hours: You will work on a rolling rota of 4 nights on, 4 nights off from 10.30pm to 8.00am
