Job Description

Following a service redesign, the Morning Star hostel will soon be reopening providing high quality supported accommodation to 20 homeless men in Hulme.  The hostel will be staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with 2 concierges on shift outside office hours.  We are therefore looking to recruit some additional staff to work evenings, weekends and/or overnight.

You will provide a high quality concierge service providing excellent customer service to residents.  You will interact in a positive and friendly manner with residents, and be passionate about working in a service that supports people to find new homes and rebuild their lives. You will assist in the smooth running of the hostel carrying our concierge duties including maintaining a safe environment, monitoring CCTV and undertaking health and safety checks.

1 post at 40.25 hours per week based on a 2 week working pattern

Week 1- 34.5 hours (3 shifts of 9pm – 9am)

Week 2 – 46 hours (4 shifts of 9pm – 9am)

2 posts at 23 hours per week (Saturday-Sunday, 9am-9pm)

SCP6 £20,314 per annum, (pro rata for part time,

full time to 37.5 hours actual salary £21,803)

Main tasks and responsibilities

  1. To ensure the highest levels of customer service to all residents, visitors and contractors and be the first point of contact for all queries during your scheduled hours in accordance to Caritas values and ethos. 
  2. To interact in a positive and friendly manner with people, including those with mental health needs, and be passionate about working in a service that supports vulnerable adults. 
  3. Maintaining the security of the building including controlling access to the building.                                                                                 
  4. Communicating and engaging effectively with staff and reporting and logging any issues for day staff. 
  5. To undertake health and safety checks on patrols through the building and monitoring through the CCTV system. This will include:
    • Responding to any fire alarm activations and implementing emergency evacuation procedures including acting as the main fire alarm marshal and contacting emergency services.
    • Responding to any needs for the first aid and telephoning emergency services as appropriate.
    • Reporting incidents and accidents to on call staff and/or emergency services
    • Health and safety monitoring.
    • Ensuring the implementation of house policies for the control of smoking, limitation of noise, etc.                                                         
  6. Dealing with anti-social behaviour issues following the guidelines and ethos of the service.                                                                                                                                                                                                   
  7. Completing incident reports and reporting any out of hours emergency repairs.                                                         
  8. To ensure high standards of cleanliness and comfort throughout the building, creating a welcoming environment and taking pride in appearance of the building and facilities. This will include ensuring the building is clean and tidy and any spillages are mopped and cleaned up. 
  9. To co-ordinate, instruct and allow access for services to the building, such as utility companies, refuse collection, deliveries, repairs and maintenance. 
  10. To maintain up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of safety relevant to this position and undertake training as required.

To carry out any other duty, commensurate with the level of the post, as may be determined by the Hostel Manager, Head of Homelessness or Director.
